Abstract

Robots are key supporting equipment in advanced manufacturing and are profoundly changing the way humans produce and live. Industry insiders believe that the global robotics industry is currently active in innovation, has significant market potential and development space, and is expected to maintain its development momentum in the future.

The report from the International Federation of Robotics categorizes robots into two main types: industrial robots and service robots. Industrial robots are those engaged in production in factories, while service robots are further divided into professional service robots, medical robots, and consumer service robots, primarily applied in fields such as transportation and logistics, cleaning, agriculture, rescue, and monitoring.

The report shows that since 2021, the annual installation of industrial robots worldwide has exceeded 500,000 units for three consecutive years, with over 540,000 units installed in 2023. In 2023, 70% of all newly deployed industrial robots were installed in Asia, 17% in Europe, and 10% in the Americas. China, Japan, the United States, South Korea, and Germany are the top five robot markets globally.

Suzanna Bieller, Secretary General of the International Federation of Robotics, stated that the global installation of industrial robots remains at a high level. The International Federation of Robotics predicts that in the coming years, the demand for automation solutions in the international market will drive the global installation of robots to rise again.

The report also pointed out that in 2023, the global installation of professional service robots reached 205,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 30%; the installation of medical robots was 6,100 units, a year-on-year increase of 36%; and the installation of consumer service robots was 4.1 million units, a year-on-year increase of 1%. The United States, China, Germany, Japan, and France rank as the top five countries in terms of the number of service robot manufacturers.

Marina Bill, former president of the International Federation of Robotics, stated that in recent years, robotic technology, with its unique charm and immense potential, is reshaping the world. From industrial production to healthcare, from domestic services to emergency rescue, robots have become an indispensable part of human society. It is foreseeable that the deep integration of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and 5G technology will endow robots with higher intelligence, flexibility, and efficiency, injecting vigorous development vitality into the global robot market.
